No Fossil Funding Pledge

Fossil Free Parliament’s first long-term action is to call on all MPs and Peers to sign a No Fossil Funding pledge – to reject any and all benefits from the fossil fuel industry and its affiliates.

Offers of benefits – from donations to hospitality – are one of the primary methods that organisations use to influence parliamentarians. It creates a conflict of interest for parliamentarians to accept benefits from companies or individuals involved in the fossil fuel industry, or organisations representing fossil fuel industry interests (such as sector agencies or affiliated think tanks or pressure groups).

When parliamentarians accept such benefits from the fossil fuel industry or its affiliates, they are both implicitly condoning the industry’s dangerous disregard for its role in accelerating the climate crisis and opening themselves up to further influence in favour of the industry’s interests.

Do you have five minutes to write to your MP to ask them to sign the pledge?
